- ASCLEPIAS COTTONVery soft and lustrous fibre yielded by the surface fibres of the pod of the milk-weed; used chiefly for stuffing. The plant grows extensively in America. It is yellowish-white in colour, and the length varies from about 1/4-in. up to 1-in. The fibre is very brittle and hence has no elasticity. The plant also yields a bast fibre which is fine, long and glossy, equal in durability to hemp; also known as vegetable silk.
